June 24th | Ms. Mieko Takahashi who is a member of the sister city committee in Midland sent a letter to us. The below is her letter. The day of “summer begin” is passed. We are enjoying nice summer days now. Though the temperature rose to 32 degreeC a few days ago, it is rather cool in the morning and evening now. The humidity is low. According to the weather forecast, it will be warm up from the beginning of the next week. Until then, we can enjoy nice summer days. This summer we have a lot of fireflies in our backyard for the first time in several years. We enjoy it everyday after a sunset. As the latitude is high, it gets dark around 10 o’clock. When it gets dark, one or two fireflies come out of the grass. Then, many fireflies come out one after another. It is splendid. If screen doors are closed, fireflies stop on screen doors and flash. It is nice to see it. I understand that the life of s firefly is about 10 days. So, we still have a few days left to enjoy fireflies. What a luxury it is to see 15 types of birds picking seed in the day time and watch fireflies flying in the evening. Robins nested in the flowers in a hanging pot and lay eggs in it. Now, they are sitting on eggs. A mid-summer is just around the corner here in Midland. |
