The general assembly of Handa International Association for Heisei 22

It was held on April 24 ‘Saturday) in Handa Fukushi Bunka Kaikan. We would like to inform you that all items proposed to the general assembly were approved. We appreciate your cooperation.

Maximum effect at Minimum cost

It has been 7 years since Handa International Association was reorganized as non government organization.
Since then, we have carefully listened to the opinion of Handa people and carried out many activities, for example understanding of international culture diversity, for both Handa people and foreign residents. Those activities have been supported by the association members and volunteers

I understand that Japanese government is reviewing the use of tax money and put the priority of government activities through so-called “Jigyo-Siwake”. Handa International Association has been always trying an proper use of the member fee and a subsidiary and always checking whether every project is useful for Handa people.

The global circumstance is changing every minute and we are constantly exposed to the wave of globalization even in our ordinary daily life whether we like it or not. It is said that Japan is traditionally poor in diplomacy comparing with other countries. We need to educate young people of the next generation so that they have enough intelligence and knowledge and a good international sense to be a good global person. As such, I and other association directors will continue to implement our activities and projects from the standpoint of usefulness and effectiveness.

I would like to ask for your continuous support on Handa International Association.

Thank you,

Tomoyuki Matsuishi
Chairman of Handa International Association

Expect from Handa International Association

There are 2,815 foreign residents from 40 countries living in Handa as of May 1, 2010. The biggest foreign population in Handa is Brazilian. There are 1,398 Brazilians. The second is Chinese. There are 410 Chinese. The third is Korean. There are 365 Koreans. Maybe due to recent economic situation in Japan, the foreign population has been reduced by 472, comparing at the same period of last year.

Handa International Association conducts Japanese classes under the sponsorship of Handa city. Those are important education opportunity for foreigner residents to smoothly settle down into a Japanese society. Besides Japanese classes, Handa International Association conducts several other valuable activities such as consultations for foreign residents, culture exchange programs, etc. I have to tell you that Handa International Association is now indispensable to foreign residents in Handa.

I expect Handa International Association to continue to play an important role to link Hnada people to foreign people and cultures. I would like to encourage Handa people to be a member of Handa International Association and support its activities.

Request to Handa city

When my family came to Japan, we lived in Kyushu for my husband to study there. After that, we moved to Chiba Then, we came to Handa.
While I was raising my children in Handa, I found that there was no safe outdoor field where children could play. Regarding education, I think that more English education should be provided in school. English education should be started in a primary school.
I also hope that Handa city facilitates a monthly meeting so that Handa city government and foreign residents can talk.

Ms.Edina Kurota

Profile; She was born in Hungary and immigrated to Australia. She came to Japan in 1996. She taught English in elementary and middle schools in Handa and Ohbu as AET (Assistant English Teacher). She speaks English and Japanese.
Living in Handa

When I was 12 years old, my family immigrated to Australia. I first came to Japan when I was 24 years old. Since then, I worked as AET in a few cities including Handa. I married a Japanese husband. I have two children since July this year.

After I got children, it is the biggest headache to me that there are no proper size parks in Handa where children can play. Sports Park has a lawn yard, but, it is too big and has no shade as there are no trees there so that children can not play. I wish the city will build a green rich park where children, parents and aged people can meet while children are playing.

Cherry blossom viewing - A little too early

Around 70 students and volunteers of Japanese class went for cherry blossom viewing on March 28 after a Japanese class. Despite a cherry blossom forecast, we had only 30% of cherry blossoms bloomed due to a recent unusually cold climate. We told ourselves that this kind of thing sometimes happened. But it was an enjoyable cherry blossom viewing as we did many things such as introducing ourselves in Japanese, singing a song, enjoying food, etc.

Enjoyed “Sake” museum and Vinegar museum

★When Japanese class students listened to the explanations of the museum staff, they returned timely responses to the museum staff. They appeared to be relaxing and enjoy the museums.

At “Sake” tasting which everybody long waited, they raced to the tasting and enjoyed it. ジョシリンasked me “Mr. Ina, Which “Sake” do you like as a gift of Father’s Day?”
I enjoyed a nice time fully with Japanese class students. I brought back many nice memories and presents.

Yoshiteru Ina

★ It has been 10 months since I came to Handa. I joined the tour to Sake Museum and Vinegar Museum which was conducted by Handa International Association, I could learn more about Handa where I have lived for 10 months. In Sake Museum, I watched Video which introduced the history of Japanese Sake and then, enjoyed a tasting of Sake. In Vinegar Museum which is only one museum of vinegar in Japan, they explained the production process in detail to make vinegar from a raw material of “Kasuzu” and showed the equipments used in the production process. I was very impressed with workers who worked in old days vinegar factory. I was also impressed with a variety of modern vinegar products.Ren Shan Pu(Procedente da China)
